It comes from the phrase “Boogie Woogie” which was the name given to a relatively simple musical construct that has been one of the essential building blocks of popular music since the early 20th Century. • The tracks in this collection are a sample of how versatile and successful “Boogie Woogie” was in the 1940s and ‘50s. • The record that started it all by Pine Top Smith which was the first to be released with “Boogie Woogie” in the title is included as it is an important part of musical history from almost 100 years ago. Also included is Arthur Smith’s interpretation, “Guitar Boogie” which he wrote and recorded in 1945. It sold over three million copies, and was awarded a gold disc by the RIAA. • This compilation presents thirty prime examples of Boogie Woogie, from rock and roll icons Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Haley, Clyde McPhatter and Joe Turner along with lesser known artists from the fields of R&B and Country. • Be it played on a piano, guitar or double bass the message is clear – ROCK THAT BOOGIE!
