This unique 3 CD set features every record that reached No. 1 on the NME charts from 1952 until the end of 1957, giving a 5 year portrait of the most popular songs with British audiences, begins with Al Martino and ends with Harry Belafonte. In between are titles that represent every major change in public taste, and by 1957 presents the sounds that appealed more to a younger generation like Paul Anka, Bill Haley, Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley. In this period there were 66 number 1 hits in the record chart, so we have added 9 bonus tracks of number 1 hits on the sheet music charts from 1950-52, which was the only sales barometer available before the NME chart began publication in 1952. Not surprisingly, the compilation features just a host of major names from the era, from both sides of the Atlantic – Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Rosemary Clooney, Frankie Laine, Kay Starr, Johnnie Ray, Vera Lynn, Bill Haley, Elvis Presley and dozens more. This is a great companion volume to Acrobat’s hugely successful British Hit Parades series. While that series provides the ability to hear every hit from each year, this obviously enables listeners to hear all the biggest hits from every year represented
