  • Lyhyt kuvaus CD (Digipak) with 36-page booklet, 30 tracks, total playing time approx. 79 min. In the industrial heart of Northwest Indiana, just across the state line from Chicago, a small independent label carved out a place in music history: Mar-Vel’ Records. Founded by tireless hustler and visionary Harry Glenn, Mar-Vel’ became a home for raw, unpolished, and fiercely authentic country and rockabilly sounds during the 1950s and ’60s. Glenn was more than a producer—he was a promoter, a believer, and a true character. Driving his battered Rambler wagon stuffed with thousands of 45s, he crisscrossed the South, dropping in at radio stations unannounced, charming DJs into spinning his latest releases. His motto, “Hits of Tomorrow Recorded Today”, might have been ambitious, but the music that emerged from Mar-Vel’ remains electrifying to this day. Many artists passed through Glenn’s orbit: Jack Bradshaw, briefly signed to Decca; Bobby Sisco, who cut rockabilly scorchers for Chess; and a teenage Sherry Lee, who later found fame as Jackie DeShannon. But perhaps no one captured the spirit of Mar-Vel’ quite like the wild Herbie Duncan. Duncan’s 1958 single Hot Lips Baby is a wild, unhinged blast of rockabilly mayhem—panting, ranting, and utterly unforgettable. With his backing band barely holding on, Duncan delivered one of the genre’s most eccentric and riveting records. His follow-ups were no less fierce, cementing his cult status as one of rockabilly’s true originals. This collection not only celebrates Duncan but also shines a light on the full scope of Mar-Vel’s output: honky-tonk tearjerkers, proto-rock’n’roll gems, and even novelty twists like the space-themed Moon Twist. Each track is a testament to Glenn’s determination to give working-class performers from Hammond, Indiana, and beyond a chance to be heard. With Bear Family Records’ signature attention to detail, That’ll Flat Git It!
