• Lyhyt kuvaus Guy Mitchell was, quite simply, one of the most successful singing sensations of the ‘50s. From the classic humble beginnings as dance band, radio and demo vocalist, he was projected into the big time by the Midas touch of legendary producer Mitch Miller, and had no less than 25 hits in the US between 1950 and ’54. His trademark style – exuberant, sing-along country-flavoured and novelty melodies, with powerful choruses driven by French horns – proved irresistibly commercial, and not just in the USA. He was a huge star in the UK – when he first visited in 1952, even before his first hit, for a 2-week stint at the London Palladium, all the tickets were sold in 24 hours, a record that still stands today. In all, he achieved 15 UK hits during the 50s, with 4 No. 1s, from the extraordinary Bob Merrill song “She Wears Red Feathers” in 1953, to “Rock-a-Billy” in 1957. The biggest of them was “Singing The Blues”, a country-styled Rock ‘n’ Roll record which demonstrated his ability to step across the musical boundaries, and gave his career and reputation a further boost. He remained hugely popular through subsequent decades, with big-selling TV-advertised albums, especially after his return from semi-retirement in the ‘80s, touring the world once more, including a triumphant return to the London Palladium in 1987, as well as numerous Country Festivals. He died in 1999, aged 72, but there are legions of fans who regard him as one of the best and most uniquely stylish performers of his generation. Guy Mitchell returned to active recording and performing after a lengthy illness and semi-retirement during the 1970s, when he was invited to appear in a TV tribute special devoted to Mitch Miller. He was tempted back into the recording studio in Nashville, where he re-recorded 18 of his biggest hits plus the favourite oldies “Music Music Music” and “Side By Side”. Sticking closely to the original arrangements, but given a more contemporary country-rock feel, these stereo re-creations found Guy in powerful form, proving that the years hadn’t affected his voice at all, and the album was well-received.This unique great-value 2-CD set comprises these 1982 re-cuts – generally known as The Triad Sessions - on CD1, plus his original hit versions of these tracks on CD2, expanded to include a further 10 of his original 50s hits. It is bound to have a special appeal to Guy’s many admirers, and gives a different slant on the music of one of the great crossover Country/Pop performers.
