Formed in 1962, the group's sound blended the earlier vocal harmony sound of The Swing Era (Jo Stafford et al) with the soul and beat of rock 'n' roll. All of Italian extraction, The Duprees had a string of hits for the Coed label beginning with 1962's You Belong To Me (No 7 Pop) and including My Own True Love (No 13 and a gold disc), Why Don't You Believe Me (No 37), Gone With The Wind (No 89), Have You Heard (No 18) and (It's No) Sin (No 74). Several of the hits were Joni James songs - a passion for the group. This CD assembles all their Coed sides, many reissued here for the first time and many instereo.The Duprees story is told in detail in the accompanying sleevenotes by Stefan Pingel and the latter also provided the photographs and records (Ace Records).
